Pediatric Chiropractic

You may wonder why your child would need chiropractic care. Many people think that chiropractic is all about relieving back or neck pain. Sure, it does a great job of doing just that, but it can help children thrive!

Get Your Baby Checked Early

Did you know that the birth process itself can be traumatic? Many times, subluxation happens during childbirth. That’s why we encourage new parents to bring their baby in as soon after birth as possible. The sooner we can get a baby adjusted and checked as needed, the easier it is to make that correction.

“Checking babies as soon as possible after birth is ideal and something we love doing. Giving little ones an adjustment is such an amazing pivotal moment. It’s the greatest honor that there can ever be when a new mom hands me their newborn baby,” says Pediatric Chiropractor Dr. Brittney.

There are many incredible benefits children can experience as a result of chiropractic care: improves the immune system, promotes better sleep, helps with breastfeeding, improves digestion and many more.

Natural and effective chiropractic can help to address a broad array of common childhood issues. These include

  • ADHD
  • Allergies
  • Anxiety

  • Asthma
  • Bedwetting
  • Breastfeeding difficulties

  • Colic
  • Ear infections
  • Sleep issues

Perhaps best of all, chiropractic care is completely natural. Given that many medications have a host of unpleasant and even dangerous associated side effects, chiropractic is sought after by parents.

Pediatric chiropractic is not so much focused on addressing pain or injuries but more so helping kids connect with their family or with classmates. Many children in our practice have various challenges, including focus or behavioral issues.

Perhaps you’d like to get through your trip to the grocery store without your child having a meltdown. Or you’d like to help your child sit still in school and focus and learn—without having to take medication.

When a child has a nervous system that is functioning optimally, that child can enjoy improved physical and emotional health. Parents also can experience less stress. The result—harmony in the home!

If you’re bringing your infant in, we encourage you to feed your baby first, as hungry babies aren’t as easy to work with. For children who are older, we recommend that you have a chat with them before the appointment about what a chiropractor is. We also suggest that you let them know that they won’t be getting any shots! Instead, tell your child that Dr. Brittney will talk to them and possibly check their spine.

Ensuring your child’s comfort is paramount. We always try to make kids feel as comfortable as possible and meet them where they are. If they don’t want to get on the table or come into the adjusting room, that’s okay! Dr. Brittney will come into the play area and chat with your child there to try to relate to them first.

Instead of trying to get your child to lie down on the adjusting table, she can check your child while they’re playing.

Is the adjustment on a child the same as an adult?

No, our adjustments are tailored to the size and age of the patient. An adjustment on a newborn is very gentle. Only slight fingertip pressure is used. There is never any snapping, cracking or big movements.
My child may act up or not be able to sit still. Can you help them?

Parents will be nervous if they have a child who struggles with ADHD, anxiety or behavior or sensory processing issues. Rest assured that we will meet your child where they are. We see many children who struggle with such issues. Your child will be made to feel completely comfortable in our warm environment.
How will you help establish trust?

On the first day, Dr. Brittney will get to know your child. Our chiropractor is kind and compassionate and will help put your child at ease quickly. When your child is ready to get adjusted, she uses only gentle adjustments.

Kids’ Care Plans

You may be wondering what a care plan will look like for your child. Plans are sometimes more intensive than with an adult. That’s because children often have a deep-rooted condition that they are struggling with. Sometimes children have a subluxation that has been there since birth. Chemical and emotional stresses may be involved. That’s why care plans can be more extensive than an adult.
